Community Room

The Community Room at the Wheeler Memorial Library may be used by members of the public without charge. To reserve the space please inquire in the Children's Room or call 978-544-2495 x104.
Please note the Community Room Policy below:

1. The Community Room is available for use by groups and individuals, provided that the meeting, activity, or program is not-for-profit in nature.

2. Library events, programs, and other official uses take precedence over patron bookings.

4. If the room is reserved by phone, a preliminary application for use may be filled out by a library staff member on the patron’s behalf. However, the application must be signed by the individual or contact person for the group making the reservation before the meeting takes place.

5. If it is necessary to cancel a meeting, please notify the Library as soon as possible.

6. Use of the room is restricted to normal library hours unless special arrangements have been made with the Library Director. All meetings should end at least fifteen minutes prior to the library’s closing, with cleanup complete and the room vacated by closing time.

7. Meetings of two or more people may not be longer than three hours. An individual may not reserve the Community Room for more than 30 minutes.

8. Permission to use the Community Room may be withdrawn for violation of library and/or Community Room regulations.

9. It is required to check in at the circulation desk in the Children’s Room at least 15 minutes before the start of your meeting (depending on the extent of set-up needed.) Set–up is the responsibility of the group that has booked the room. A 4’ x 6’ table and 26 stacking chairs are available for use.

10. No admission fees may be charged.

11. Smoking or drug use is not allowed in the Library or on its grounds.

12. Alcohol consumption is not allowed in the Library or on its grounds, with exceptions permitted for special events approved by the Library Director.

13. Only light refreshments may be served. A group booking the room must supply its own utensils, plates, etc.

14. You must complete and return the meeting attendance form to the staff at the Children’s Room’s circulation desk at the end of your use of the space.

15. The person or group booking the room is responsible for any damage to the library building, furniture, or equipment that takes place during the booked event.

16. All terms of the Library’s Behavior Policy apply inside the Community Room, with some exceptions granted in instances when those reserving the room are exercising their First Amendment free speech rights as permitted in a Limited Public Forum. Note that just as libraries do not endorse information contained in their collections, the Orange Public Libraries does not endorse any speech made by outside groups in the Wheeler Memorial Libraries’ Community Room. This includes political, social, religious, and partisan groups as well as groups that advocate or advance controversial ideas or disparage others. Provision of meeting room space to a group is not an endorsement of the group, its beliefs, or its speech.

These terms of use may be changed by the Library Director or the Orange Public Libraries Board of Trustees at any time, with or without notice.

Approved by the Orange Public Libraries Board of Trustees on June 23, 2026.
